The U.S. Treasury began phasing out paper checks for most federal payments on September 30, 2025, in accordance with an executive order.
After this date, tax refunds will need to use an electronic payment method, such as direct deposit. Also, payments to the Treasury will need to be made electronically. You can remit taxes electronically by:
- Allowing us to schedule drafts from your bank accounts for amounts due with your return or estimates. We'll send a reminder before each payment, so funds are available.
- IRS Direct Pay
- Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS)
New individual enrollments are limited - Recommended! IRS Online Accounts for Individuals
- Recommended! IRS Online Accounts for Businesses
There is some transition relief for payments to the IRS. Some payments for taxes owed will be accepted by paper check through 2027, but the IRS is encouraging all current payments to be made electronically.
The State of Georgia also allows for electronic payment of taxes. We can schedule an amount due with your return to automatically draft. Payments can also be submitted through the Georgia Tax Center.
